We start the day by grabbing a quick call to Lucy who has her birthday just one day after Richard – it is her 21st.
Now determined that as we approach the highest parts of our journey we will not take any more risks on these crazy paths. Today's path passes through woodland and although high above the Durance, it feels protected by the surrounding pine trees. Until again at the narrowist part of the track we run straight into the aftermath of a land-slide. Grey-clay has wiped way all the trees to the river below leaving a track barely a foot wide and crumbing all around.
We often quote that « paths are made by walking ». In this case the path was made by bare hands and a claw hammer. After 30 minutes of hard labour we had managed to widen and strengthen the pathy so that we could all pass in safety.
From there we chose to stick to the certainty of the tarmac for the rest of the day and have luckily stumbled on a cheery camp-site with a neighbouring Centre -Equestre and so Nellie, Flea and the pair of us can take an easy evening before setting out for Montgenevre and Italy tomorrow.
