07.09.2010 Vence to La Colle sur Loup 20km
Some tough, but still extremely good walking, though for us it was complicated by impassable sections – barriers, steps etc. - which ultimately led to us taking a detour and ending up in Colle sur Loup – a better alternative as it turns out. For reasons best known to the GR signers, Colle sur Loup, a pleasant town with good facilities and an acceuil pelerin in the maison paroisse, has been by-passed in preference for Roquefort les Pins, though this is in fact a longer and more arduous route. Having discovered this, we will recommend the route directly to Colle sur Loup.
Accommodation: basic but free, in a pleasant courtyard. Need to notify Beatrice Grier of your arrival at least 24 hours ahead. Ideal for walkers, but complicated for people with horses. Nellie was tethered in the courtyard, but we had to walk back (3km each way) to an equestrian centre to buy hay – last thing we needed at the end of a hard day.
